About Teachly
Teachly is a teacher matching service for Sri Lankan parents and students. You describe what you need, and the teachers who actually teach it come to you.
What we are, and what we are not
Finding a tutor usually starts with a list of adverts and a lot of phone calls. Teachly starts at the other end. A parent posts one requirement and the teachers who match it are the ones who get in touch — so the work of sorting out who teaches what, at what level, in which part of town, is done before anybody picks up a phone.
A posted requirement is not a contact advert. It shows the subject, level, area, budget and the days that suit you — never your name, never your number, and never anything that identifies your child.
How a match happens
You post what you need
Subject, level, syllabus, area, whether you want lessons at home, at the teacher's place or online, your budget, the days that suit you and when you want to start.
Matching teachers are sent your request
Five at a time, up to three rounds. Only teachers who teach that subject, at that level, in that area and in the mode you asked for are sent it — not everyone on the site.
They reply with a real answer
A reply is a structured response, not a chat: a message, the fee the teacher proposes and the schedule they can offer. Teachers cannot message you freely before you decide.
You compare the replies
Every teacher who answered your requirement sits on one page, side by side, so you are choosing between real offers rather than chasing people one at a time.
You reveal your number to one teacher
Contact details are exchanged only for the teacher you pick, and only when you choose to. Up to that point a teacher has your requirement, not you.
Every teacher is checked by a person
A new teaching profile starts as a draft and cannot be found by anyone. It becomes visible only after someone here has reviewed it and approved it. A teacher cannot approve themselves: the review decision is made from the admin queue and nowhere else, so an unreviewed profile stays a draft no matter what it fills in.
Where we start
Teachly covers the Colombo suburbs today. Every other district in the country is already in the system and switched off on purpose: we would rather have enough teachers in a few areas to answer a request properly than a thin scattering everywhere. Expanding is a decision, not a rebuild.
Every level is covered, from Grade 1 through to G.C.E. A/L, including the Grade 5 Scholarship — and the Sri Lankan local, Cambridge, Edexcel and international school syllabuses.
What it costs
Nothing, on either side, today. Posting a requirement is free, being matched is free, and responding to a request is free for teachers. Whatever you agree to pay for lessons is settled directly between you and the teacher — Teachly takes no cut of it and never handles the money.
